Zack Snyder's director's cut of Justice League is what most people were referencing when they said the "Snyder Cut" up until 2020. This version of the Justice League movie’s CGI was never totally completed and had a green screen and pre-vis in place of finished visuals in many scenes, although a significant portion of VFX was completed.

Tactics aside, the #releasetheSnydercut contingent is finally getting its wish, as HBO Max announced Wednesday that the “Snyder cut” of the movie will be released exclusively on its new streaming platform, probably sometime in 2021, after Snyder recovers old footage and completes post-production.

Justice League was released in 2017 with a 1.78:1 widescreen ratio. And though early reports claimed Zack Snyder’s Justice League would utilize a 1.66:1 aspect ratio, we now know that Snyder shot the film specifically for a full-frame look in 1.33:1.

At Justice Con, back in July 2020, Snyder explained how he originally intended to shoot all of Justice League with this aspect ratio in mind, so that the movie could fill up a giant 1.43:1 IMAX screen for the entire runtime, instead of just select action sequences, which is typically how IMAX is used for big-budget studio movies like this.
