Well signposted from the main road. A bespoke road runs from the village to the castle which has plenty of parking. It's a bit like a small Fort George. The group of buildings are all in good conditi…Full review by Roger G

You can get either a direct train from Edinburgh Waverley to Linlithgow, takes about 20 mins and runs very frequently, or take a bus from Edinbugh to Linlithow. Currently the First Bus services are the 38 direct or 22 and change to the 21 - details online for more info. In the town centre, at the Cross by the Palace, then take the local bus service number 49 (currently run by Prentice Westwood - details online) but note this is a local servoce with a service running 09.30 - 17.30 so make sure that unless you use a taxi of curse you plan the travel to suit. No facilities in Blackness I'm afraid for refreshments other than just a coffee at the castle. If you stop off in Bo'ness on the way back in Bo'ness there are a few options, and in Linlithgow too if you fancy a change to the city centre choices.

To answer the driving time, Blackenss is easy to get too and doesn't take long allowing you to explore the Castle and also into Linlithgow for seeing the Palace or into South Queesferry for a view of the Bridges etc. From Edinburgh take directions towards either; A. Takes about 25 mins traffic allowing Take the road out to the M90 - Perth which takes you out to the Forth Road Bridge. Turn off the motorway and follow signs for A904 to Bo'ness. After Newton about 3 miles on at the right turn just after the House of the Binns (National Trust property you can also visit) turn right - signed to Blackness and Castle. Or B. Anbout 20 mins Follow signs to Stirling on M9, and take Junction 3. At junction, turn right to Bo'ness, then second right - signed to Blackness and Castle. Trust that's of use
