How difficult is the walking there. I can walk but not real long distance. Also are there a lot of stairs? I have some problem climbing a lot of stairs. Please help.

Please clarify what the name of the out of the town centre river gorge area with the oldest caves is? Could a 2019 traveller clarify how they transported themselves across to where those very old caves are. We are coming in to Matera in the morning from Taranto and only have the afternoon to explore.. But if we catch a taxi; what are we actually asking for? If we can catch a bus there in 2019, what are we asking for. Thanks.
