Although it was a little on the humid side today the free fossil bed tour helped get me the exercise I needed. The fact that folks come from all over the world to see this 390 million years old fossi… Full review by Joe B

There is a limited amount about the start of the exploration. There is a cabin - probably a reconstruction - on property where they planned, prepared, and started the trip. The cabin was closed when we were there last year (2017). Several information displays are at the main park and this property. I am sure there are probably other things in the general area. We went primary for the fossils and falls. Remember the Falls of the Ohio park is primary a nature focused site. If you are interested in historical sites, I would recommend you consider a visit to Madison or Corydon in the immediate area of Southern Indiana.

The Widow's Walk ice cream and bike shop is very close at 415 E. Riverside Dr. In addition to some great ice cream and bike rentals, they have burgers and sandwiches. You can't miss it because it is an old Victorian colorfully-painted house. With regard to the fossil beds, I was there in April so I can only give you my best guess about walking on them. The river was so high then and there was so much debris, that I doubt much has been cleaned up or that the river is lower. I would call/email the Clarksville Park System and ask for an update. For some reason, TripAdvisor doesn't allow websites in answers to questions. So just do a search for the Parks and Recreation Dept. for Clarksville, Indiana.
