Hello, The area around the museum is safe, as are most areas in Europe. And, the area around the museum may have pickpockets, as do most major cities in Europe. You just need to take care of your belongings. Don't put any phone/wallet in a pocket - especially a back pocket. Don't carry all your cash and your passport with you on outings -- leave the passport and most of your cash in the hotel safe. Of the cash and credit cards that you do bring, distribute them - don't have it all in one wallet in your one purse. When you are in crowds, hold tight to your purse. Don't put your cell phone down anywhere. If someone comes up to you asking for help, info, directions, etc - hold your purse tight. All this may sound scary, but I can honestly say that I'd walk just about anywhere in Europe at almost any time of day and into the night up to 11pm or so.
