Known locally as whinstone for the sound it makes when hit by a stonemasons hammer, it provides a natural throne upon which the castle sits forty five metres above sea level.

No, you can't use an English Heritage card at Bamburgh Castle because it's not part of English Heritage. However, you can use a Historic Houses Association (HHA) card at Bamburgh Castle

We only drove through the town to get to the Castle. Suggest you try the Town Council or Tourist Board if there is one.
