I will be in Sweden this May and am considering visiting Abisko about the third week in May, but I am having difficulty finding information about about the weather and [day] hiking conditions when visiting the park in May. For example, will there still be snow, what are the trail conditions then, and are there many mosquitoes that early? Please advise.

I don't know about snow but while I was there last week, a local told me that they do have mosquitoes in spring. I was discussing with him about my plans to go back to Abisko in spring/summer which is when he warned me about the problem. Also, in the middle of May there is almost no night in Abisko.

Dear All, We are three couples reaching Kiruna by air on 21st January 2020. We are visiting the region with a hope to see the northn lights. We plan to hire a c staying at both the locations for 3 days each. Our total length of stay is going to be 10 days and we will be flying back to india from kiruna. My questions are as under - 1. Whether driving from abisko national park to Tromso and back is possible during winter? 2. In case we get to see northern lights at Abisko national park (our first proposed stop after reaching Kiruna) whereat we propose to stay for 3 days, then does it make sense to travel to Tromso? 3. What other things can we do during our stay of 10 days in the region? 4. We were initially contemplating to fly into stockholm and hire a car at the airport and drive to abisko national park by taking breaks of 1 or 2 days enroute. Is it crazy to consider the said option?

Hello From Stockholm-Kiruna you can either fly(my recommendation) or take the train. Rent a car in Kiruna at the airport and drive to Abisko(1hour). Abisko is the best place to see the northern lights. There is an app called aurora now which I would recommend to download on your phone. It’s reliable. Go down to the lake when it starts it’s a perfect spot. Tromso is to do from Abisko roundabout 3 hour by car. Other things to do which is fun is husky tour and snowmobile tour. We did our husky tour in Kiruna. The snow mobile in Abisko. The ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi is also something tourists do. If you have time book a tour to one of the same villages where you get an insight in there way of living and handling reindeers.
