Jill Underly, serving her first term as state superintendent, and Brittany Kinser, an education consultant, advanced in Tuesday’s primary.

In the primary race for state superintendent of schools, Democratic incumbent Jill Underly and GOP-backed education consultant Brittany Kinser advanced Tuesday and will face off in the general election April 1.

Kinser is running against incumbent Jill Underly and Sauk Prairie Schools Superintendent Jeff Wright in the primary for state superintendent.

Jill Underly and Brittany Kinser are moving on after Jeff Wright was eliminated. Underly is serving her first term as head of the Department of Public Instruction and was elected in 2021 with the support of democrats and teachers’ unions.

Incumbent Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Jill Underly and challenger Brittany Kinser will advance to the April 1 election after the pair defeated Jeff Wright on Tuesday night in the spring primary.

Incumbent Jill Underly and challenger Brittany Kinser will advance to the April 1 race, securing 37% and 35% of votes statewide in the spring primary, respectively. Jeff Wright won 27% of votes. Underly is backed by the Democratic Party and Kinser has been supported by conservatives.
