In the primary race for state superintendent of schools, Democratic incumbent Jill Underly and GOP-backed education consultant Brittany Kinser advanced Tuesday and will face off in the general election April 1.

Kinser is running against incumbent Jill Underly and Sauk Prairie Schools Superintendent Jeff Wright in the primary for state superintendent.

Jill Underly, serving her first term as state superintendent, and Brittany Kinser, an education consultant, advanced in Tuesday’s primary.

Newcomer Brittany Kinser and incumbent State Superintendent Jill Underly will face off for the state superintendent position in Wisconsin’s general election on April 1.

It's a race that’s officially nonpartisan, but Democrats are backing incumbent Jill Underly and Republicans support her challenger, Brittany Kinser.

Incumbent Jill Underly and challenger Brittany Kinser will advance to the April 1 race, securing 37% and 35% of votes statewide in the spring primary, respectively. Jeff Wright won 27% of votes. Underly is backed by the Democratic Party and Kinser has been supported by conservatives.

The Associated Press called the State Superintendent of Public Instruction primary election for Jill Underly and Brittany Kinser, the two candidates will be moving on to the Spring General Election on April 1.
