Minnesota agreed to a six-year contract with the Twin Cities-area native and former student manager for the Gophers who had the Rams within one basket of the Sweet 16.

Niko Medved is set to take over as head coach of the Minnesota men's basketball team following a successful run at Colorado State. The Rams were eliminated from the NCAA tournament on Sunday night, and the Golden Gophers moved quickly to bring Medved back to his home state and make him the head coach at his alma mater.

Minnesota has hired one of its own to lead its basketball program. Director of Athletics Mark Coyle announced Monday that Colorado State’s Niko Medved has agreed to a six-year deal to become the Gophers next head coach. He replaces Ben Johnson, who was fired after four seasons earlier this month.

With three seconds on the clock, Maryland freshman center Derik Queen received the inbounds pass and dribbled to his left, tucked the ball, and drove to put up a bank shot that went in as the buzzer went off.

Derik Queen banked in a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer, and Maryland advanced to the Sweet 16 in a thriller, beating Colorado State 72-71 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

A portrait of President Donald Trump, painted during his first term and unveiled in 2019, is being taken down from the Colorado State Capitol after Trump criticized its depiction of him on social media.

Trump demanded Sunday night on social media that the portrait be taken down, saying he "would much prefer not having a picture."

"The artist also did President Obama, and he looks wonderful, but the one on me is truly the worst," Trump said.
