A House committee voted 10-3 to approve a bill to remove fluoride from all water systems in the state, arguing people should get to decide for themselves what goes into their bodies.

The Utah Legislature is considering whether to ban adding fluoride to public water systems, just a few months after a federal court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency should take action to address potential health risks associated with high levels of the mineral in drinking water.

More than 70% of the U.S. population that uses public drinking water systems has access to water with fluoride levels that prevent tooth decay.
