A California man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after a slip of the tongue, accidentally identifying himself as the "DUI" to law enforcement instead of the "DD".

In seeming disbelief, the officer responded: "You're the DUI tonight?" "Yes sir," the driver confirmed. "Do you mean to say the 'DD'?" the officer asked, referring to the abbreviation for a designated driver who would remain sober while others imbibed. The driver paused, apparently at a loss for words, and meekly apologized.

The Murrieta Police Department said the man 'clearly' meant to say he was 'the DD [designated driver' on New Year's Day.

A man who crashed into a Stockton police car is accused of driving drunk on a suspended license, authorities said.

Police say the man was pulled over after he was spotted swerving on the road. Once officers pulled him over, they asked where he was coming from and the man causally responded by saying "I was just dropping off my friend because I'm the DUI tonight.
