U.S. Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists found 37 giant live beetles stashed inside an air cargo shipment that had arrived in California from Japan.
These are some of the live beetles being smuggled inside Japanese snacks that were seized in Jan. 2025 by Customs and Border Protection at Los Angeles International Airport.
Dozens of live beetles were found hidden inside packages of Japanese snacks sent into the US. The crawly contraband is sought after by collectors, and likely worth around $1,500, the agency noted.
