Mark Wiedman, head of BlackRock's (NYSE:BLK) global client business and potential successor to CEO Larry Fink, is leaving the asset manager after two decades to pursue other opportunities, according to a media report dated Tuesday.

Asset manager BlackRock's top executive Mark Wiedman, who was touted to be a potential successor to CEO Larry Fink, is departing the firm, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing four people close to the company.

Mark Wiedman, one of BlackRock’s most senior executives and a potential successor to CEO Larry Fink, is leaving the world’s largest asset manager in a shuffle of its top ranks of leadership.

Wiedman, who joined BlackRock in 2004 to help build the firm’s Financial Markets Advisory Group, was seen as one of a handful of the New York-based money management giant’s executives who could be tapped to fill CEO Larry Fink’s shoes when the 72-year-old co-founder of the firm eventually retires.

A potential successor to BlackRock CEO Larry Fink is reportedly leaving the firm, narrowing the list of contenders to become the next boss of the world's largest money manager.

“Our record results in 2024 are just the beginning of our next phase of growth,” Fink concluded, with pending acquisitions - including that of global credit manager HPS Investment Partners - marking BlackRock’s continued success in investing in structural growth trends and drivers.
