The late Irish blues and rock legend Rory Gallagher has been honored in his adopted city of Belfast with a statue.

Barry McGivern, of the Rory Gallagher Statue Project Trust, said the statue was a "fitting tribute". "Rory came up to Belfast in 1967 and it was a vibrant music scene," Mr McGivern told BBC News NI.

Born in Ballyshannon and raised in Cork, Gallagher moved in 1967 to Belfast, a city that would become a cornerstone of his musical journey.
