The US State Department is planning to sell $8 billion in arms to Israel, marking what will likely be the Biden administration’s last weapons sale to its ally.

The Biden administration notified Congress of an $8 billion weapons package for Israel, including thousands of bombs, missiles, and artillery shells, in one of the largest new arms sales since the war in Gaza began in 2023.

The sale includes medium-range air-to-air missiles to help Israel defend against airborne threats, 155 mm projectile artillery shells for long-range targeting, Hellfire AGM-114 missiles, 500-pound bombs and other weaponry.

The US State Department on Friday informed Congress of its plan to approve USD 8 billion worth of arms sales to Israel, according to the department’s office presiding weapons transfers, the New York Times reported.

Axios, which first reported news of the weapons sale, said the proposed deal includes JDAM tail kits that turn “dumb bombs” to precision munitions, 500-lb warheads and bomb fuzes.
