Mattel has introduced a Ken doll made in the likeness of legendary NBA star LeBron James, marking the first such figure honoring a pro athlete since the toy character debuted in 1961, two years after Barbie.

Barbie teamed up with the Los Angeles Lakers star and his LeBron James Family Foundation for Mattel's new campaign to create a doll of James. He is the first doll announced for the "Kenbassador" series from the brand, which looks to honor men "who inspire and contribute to a better world for all."

Mattel Inc. unveiled the LeBron Ken doll on Wednesday to kick off the toy manufacturer’s “Kenbassador” series. Last year, nine female athlete Barbies, including tennis star Venus Williams, were introduced.
