The Sewickley Public Library said in an Instagram post that 'Beowulf' was checked out in January 1969 and was not returned until this month. It had accrued nearly $1,000 in fines.
The Sewickley Public Library, located around 15 miles outside of Pittsburgh, said on social media the 100-year-old copy has finally made its way back home five decades after it was first borrowed.
It took 54 years, but the Sewickley Public Library in Pennsylvania has its copy of Beowulf back. It was checked out in January 1969. And since the library is fine-free now, there was no charge.
