The steel blue crayfish is “moderately-sized,” reaching about 2 inches in length and just under an inch in width, researchers said. It has two equal-sized and multi-colored claws.

Tusculum University students Joe Calloway and Breanna Mathes found a blue crayfish on a nature trail. A Tennessee wildlife official thinks it’s a new species.

There, they said they saw a blue crayfish that looked similar, but still distinct, from the students' find. “What Joe and Breanna found looks similar to that but not exactly,” Williams said.
