Election results in Comoros show that the ruling party has won 28 out of 33 seats in Parliament. That means the Convention for the Renewal of the Comoros party of President Azali Assoumani retains its majority in the Indian Ocean archipelago.

The ruling party in the Comoros won decisively in parliamentary elections this week, the electoral commission said, but opposition parties either boycotted the vote or rejected the results, claiming fraud.

Comoros is holding a parliamentary election that some opposition leaders have pledged to boycott. They accuse President Azali Assoumani and his ruling party of adopting an increasingly authoritarian stance and have raised concerns over the integrity of the vote.

Voters in Comoros were heading to the polls on Sunday to elect the Indian Ocean archipelago's 33-seat parliament, a year after the re-election of President Azali Assoumani in a poll which the opposition alleged was marred by widespread irregularities.
