On histologic examination, the hepatic sinusoids surrounding the central vein may be dilated and filled with blood (Panel C). Liver cells around the central vein are necrotic (centrilobular necrosis).
The sinusoids in the center of the lobules were narrowed by the enlarged liver cells, and in a few Kupffer cells, bile pigments were present. In the remaining areas the parenchyma was fully intact.
