The section of I-695 between I-70 and I-83 is expected to be completed by late summer 2027. The remaining 19 miles of the Beltway are slated for completion in 2028.

I-695 is one of the most traveled roads in the state. It's also one of the most congested highways. "They just keep extending it," said Zach Langhauser, a beltway driver.

The bridge handles one-fourth the traffic of most other parts of the Beltway. Its average daily load of 25,000 vehicles compares with more than 100,000 along most of I-695.
