High-altitude adventurer Andrzej Bargiel has become the first person to ski down from the summit of K2, descending from the world’s second-highest mountain on Sunday.

Describe K2's earliest days. Imagine a remote island located in the Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest in the 1960s. It was one of the oddest places you could imagine to establish a ski company.

People have tried to ski down K2 before, but those attempts ended in tragedies. Fredrik Ericsson, the last person before Bargiel who attempted to ski down from the peak, fell to his death in 2010.
