Take a look around till you find the missing Chess Board piece, i.e., the black Knight piece. Stare at the piece till its eyes glow red, then immediately proceed to turn around and run back.

The chess piece puzzle in the Sewer can be solved by reading the clue and eliminating where a piece might belong. With the pawn and knight slots already shown, the puzzle can be figured out.
