The “Lion King” prequel arrived to weak ticket sales last month, but moviegoers have since embraced it, pushing global box office returns toward $700 million.

Per Deadline, Mufasa: The Lion King is projected to earn $11.5 million through Sunday and $15.5 million through the four-day MLK holiday weekend. If the estimate holds it will boost Mufasa’s running domestic tally to $209.7 million since its Dec. 20, 2024, opening.

It’s one of those weekends at the box office, with two new releases pawing at one another in a closer-than-expected race. Sony’s buddy comedy “One of Them Days” is coming in on the higher end of initial projections after earning $4.
