Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of a shock return to Rangers until at least the summer with Barry Ferguson set to take the reigns until the end of the season.

Gerrard led Rangers to their only league title in the past 14 years in 2021, but has endured a tough management career since leaving Ibrox after being shown the door by Aston Villa before taking a gamble in the Saudi Pro League. However, his spell at Al-Ettifaq came to an abrupt end earlier this year with the club facing a relegation scrap.
