AUSTIN — A hefty expansion to the state’s narrow medical marijuana program won overwhelming approval in the Texas House on Tuesday, giving veterans broad access to THC treatments and raising the number of dispensaries allowed in the state.

House Bill 46 would increase the number of health conditions eligible and would offer smokeable products under the state’s medical marijuana program.

Texas House members approved legislation Monday that will implement the most significant reforms to Texas' Compassionate Use Program—which allows Texans who participate to use cannabis legally for medical purposes.
