Microsoft has taken the Photos app from Windows 11 and updated it. The manufacturer is currently distributing the new version in the Windows Insider channels, i.e., as a preview version.

Photo recognition and search, then, is what justifies downloading the Photos Legacy app. To be fair, Microsoft still pales in comparison to Google Photos here.
