Members of the RCMP may soon be wearing ribbon skirts at special events, after the national police force announced it will add the traditional skirts to its ceremonial uniform options.

The RCMP website states that there are 754 Indigenous female employees of which 311 are regular members who will have the option to wear the ribbon skirt as their dress uniform.

The RCMP has altered its dress code to include Indigenous ribbon skirts, making the garment available as part of official ceremonial uniforms for female First Nations officers who choose to wear it.
