Located at 13, 714 ft above mean sea level, Sela Pass is of high strategic importance. It connects Tawang to Tezpur and Guwahati and is the main road connecting Tawang with the rest of India.
Previously, the route to Sela pass featured single-lane connectivity with perilous bends, hindering heavy vehicle access to the crucial Tawang area, contested by China as 'South Tibet'.
