This new deal expands on a previous announcement from Type One in February 2024 that it will build a fusion prototype, called Infinity One, at a defunct TVA coal plant in Clinton, Tennessee.

The technology also could be deployed at new locations. The agreement expands on Project Infinity, which was launched by Type One Energy, TVA, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in early 2024.

Including cash and odds & ends, the deal netted C. & S. about $80,000,000, a figure it can increase by selling Tennessee Electric’s water, ice and transportation properties, which TVA did not want.
