The United States told the U.N. Security Council on Friday that the Palestinian militant group Hamas was to blame for the deaths in the Gaza Strip since Israel resumed hostilities there.

The world body will temporarily remove about a third of its approximately 100 international staffers working in Gaza.

Belal Abu Zaid, a Palestinian from northern Gaza, took to the streets alongside hundreds of others on Tuesday to protest against Israel’s war and the Palestinian militant group Hamas – both of which he blames for bringing destruction to the enclave.

Videos on Wednesday, whose authenticity Reuters could not verify, showed protests in Shejaia in the north where the rallies began, but also in the central Gaza areas of Deir Al-Ba

Rare demonstrations against Hamas, which has long repressed dissent, came amid widespread despair after Israel resumed the war in Gaza following a two-month ceasefire.
