Ravichandran Ashwin backed the decision of BCCI to appoint India's ODI vice-captain for the England series and Champions Trophy 2025.

The decision to continue with Shubman Gill as India's ODI vice-captain received mixed reactions from fans on social media.

India announced their squad for the ODI series against England and the 2025 Champions Trophy on Saturday, January 18.

Along with the vice-captaincy debate, Gambhir also reportedly preferred Sanju Samson as the wicketkeeper-batter in India's Champions Trophy squad. However, Sharma and Agarkar preferred Rishabh Pant for the role.

The BCCI seems to have moved on from Shubman Gill for a future leadership role in the team, with the board now focusing on new captaincy candidates.
