The Dallas Cowboys now have both coordinator spots filled under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. On Friday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the Cowboys are hiring Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams as their new offensive coordinator.
After hiring Mike McCarthy’s old offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, as their new head coach, the Dallas Cowboys have begun the process of building out their coaching staff, with Matt Eberflus signing on as defensive coordinator marking the first shoe to drop in that process.
Now, it is time for his staff to come together. NFL insider Ed Werder initially reported former Cowboys assistant Matt Eberflus was hired as defensive coordinator. Werder would retract that report later, noting, as Jane Slater did initially, that Eberflus is "held in high regard" for the position, but has not been hired yet.
Adams previously served as the Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach in the last two season, and has never held an offensive coordinator position.
In 2025 the Cowboys have brought in Matt Eberflus to lead the defense. Like Richard, Eberflus has a particular brand of football he prefers and populates his roster accordingly. His brand happens to be on par with the direction most of the NFL has been trending in recent seasons: bend but don’t break.

The Cardinals’ offensive line coach is being hired by the Cowboys, Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network report. Adams was listed as a strong candidate for the position when he first interviewed with Dallas earlier this week.
