The San Antonio Spurs are signing big man Bismack Biyombo for the remainder of the season, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported Friday. Biyombo, whose second 10-day contract is about to expire, has posted two double-doubles this week as the Spurs finish out the season without injured All-Star center Victor Wembanyama.
Paul bonded with Biyombo after the 6-foot-8, 255-pound big man signed a 10-day contract with the Suns on Jan. 1, 2022. The Suns won each of the next 17 games Biyombo played in, a sizzling stretch that made a big impression on Paul and that led to Phoenix signing Biyombo to a deal for the rest of the season after his 10-day pact expired.

Biyombo will give San Antonio a steady presence in the middle for the rest of the season and he offers plenty of playoff experience if the Spurs can reach the play-in tournament. Biyombo has started in all five of his appearances with San Antonio, averaging 6.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while shooting 66.7 percent from the field in 19.0 minutes per game. He logged back-to-back outings with a double-double in that five-game span.

Greek-Nigerian forward Giannis Antetokounmpo secured his standing as the African NBA Player of the Season beyond doubt in February as French-Congolese center Victor Wembanyama and Cameroon-born counterpart Joel Embiid were both ruled out for the rest of 2024-25 with injury.
The Spurs have turned to 14-year veteran center Bismack Biyombo, even though the 32-year-old big man played just 25 seconds on the season before making his first start on Thursday. Since then, Biyombo has made two more starts and has earned a 10-day contract from San Antonio.
