The weekend rescue of a snowbound Boy Scout troop on the Appalachian Trail is serving as a reminder to take precautions on Central Virginia hiking routes as the weather turns warmer.

The scouts met in Bedford on the prior evening, June 13, to grab the supplies they would need over the course of the trip.
