Although few details have been revealed about the upcoming film, Jim Carrey — who plays Sonic's iconic arch-nemesis, Dr. Ivo Robotnik — may end up reprising his fan-favorite role, despite his hints at a well-deserved retirement from Hollywood sometime in the near future.

After decidedly retiring after playing Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Jim Carrey has returned for Sonic 3, and has now said he's open to returning for Sonic 4.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 marked the return of Jim Carrey after the actor previously claimed that he would likely be retiring from the industry. He didn't just return to play Ivo Robotnik, however, but also took on another role in the form of Gerald Robotnik, Ivo's grandfather and creator of Shadow the Hedgehog.

Jim Carrey is open to reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic 4. This is despite almost leaving the series after the second film, and the third one giving him yet another out. However, he would "consider" coming back for Sonic 4,

Jim Carrey returning for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 wasn't a guarantee, so the writers of the film were dead set on creating the best Robotnik story yet.
