Several wildfires broke out in San Diego County early Tuesday, triggering evacuation orders and school closures as Southern California faced strong winds and regional red flag warnings.

Perimeter, the manufacturer of the Forest Service's fire retardant, said McCurry's research was on a formulation that wasn't used in California and is no longer used by the Forest Service.

In Covington, southeast of Atlanta, Jesse Gentes used a flame thrower to de-ice the roads in his subdivision. In better weather, he typically uses the flame thrower for brush removal, he told WSB-TV.

"A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly," the NWS said.
