A wildfire whipped up by extreme winds swept through a hillside dotted with celebrity residences, burning homes and prompting evacuations.

Southern California's Palisades Fire, fueled by a strong windstorm, has grown to 1,261 acres and prompted the city of Los Angeles to declare a state of emergency as 30,000 people have been forced to evacuate.

Thousands of people have been forced to flee after "unprecedented" Palisades, Eaton and Hurst fires ravage Los Angeles County.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who was in Southern California to attend the naming of a national monument by President Joe Biden, made a detour to the canyon to see “firsthand the impact of these swirling winds and the embers,” and he said he found “not a few — many structures already destroyed.”

The California Community Foundation has been working to strengthen Los Angeles County since 1915. The organization's Wildfire Recovery Fund targets the most underserved and hard to reach communities in the region, with the goal of helping provide long-term recovery relief.

A new fire — the Kenneth Fire — erupted Thursday afternoon, so far spreading across 960 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says that blaze is 0% contained.
