At least 15 inmates have been killed and 14 more injured in a fight at a notoriously violent prison in Ecuador. The Ecuadorean prison service SNAI said the "grave incidents" had occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at El Litoral jail in the city of Guayaquil.

Murder charges will be filed against at least nine inmates at Litoral Penitentiary in Guayaquil, which has seen riots and massacres in recent years and is widely considered the country’s most dangerous prison.
