With so much speculation around MS Dhoni 's IPL future, it seems like he may be retained by the franchise. A latest report on Rev Sports claims that the franchise is looking to retain Dhoni but at a lower retention value.

BCCI has not yet announced IPL 2025 Auction retention rules, which were expected in August but have been delayed.

Dhoni thus could end up playing one more season for the team that had led from the inaugural edition in 2008 until 2023, excluding the 2015 and the 2016 seasons when the franchise was suspended along with Rajasthan Royals due to corruption.

After suffering a life-threatening road accident in 2022, Pant returned to action with the IPL 2024, playing for Delhi Capitals, and made his international return during the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup

MS Dhoni has remained tight-lipped on his CSK future but the franchise has reportedly made a bold move on their former captain.

MS Dhoni is likely to be retained by Chennai Super Kings however, the record five-time IPL champs are likely to give their former captain a pay cut. Furthermore, the Yellow Army have drawn up a list of their top five retentions although BCCI is yet to reveal how many players each team will be allowed to retain.

Part of the conversation could see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retain a chunk of star names including Ravindra Jadeja and Gaikwad. However, the biggest name that is in the headlines is MS Dhoni as fans await his future.

The report added that Delhi Capitals finalised their top retention choices following a recent meeting between Rishabh Pant and co-owner Parth Jindal in Mumbai.

Chennai Super Kings have made a shortlist for retentions ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season. MS Dhoni is included as the CSK franchise is looking to keep five players ahead of the auction.
