“The Postal Service will suspend regular mail delivery, retail services and office activity on Jan. 9,” the postal service said in a statement posted to its website. “There will be limited package delivery service that day to ensure the organization does not experience any negative impacts to its package delivery operations.”

Postal delivery will be interrupted on Thursday, Jan, 9 as the United States observes a National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.

All U.S. Postal Service offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 9, to honor Jimmy Carter. The closure is part of an observance following the passing of the 39th president, who died Dec. 29, 2024, at the age of 100.
