A special election to fill D.C.’s vacant Ward 8 council seat following the council’s expulsion of Trayon White Sr. is set for July 15, with early voting from July 11 to July 14, according to a spokesperson for D.

It's unclear whether White will enter the race to replace himself, as federal charges did not prevent White from seeking office in the most recent general election.

The D.C. Council voted unanimously to expel Councilmember Trayon White, who was arrested last summer on a federal bribery charge and accused of accepting $35,000 cash.

The former Ward 8 councilmember is already considered the odds-on favorite to win the election precipitated by his own ouster from office.
