With director Fede Alvarez continuing to write the movie, the filmmaker has shared he hopes the sequel to 'Alien: Romulus' will enter production this year.

Alien: Romulus 2 is already in the works, according to writer-director Fede Álvarez. Rumors of a sequel have been building ever since Romulus defied expectations at the box office last summer, and now Álvarez has not only confirmed that the project is greenlit — he has revealed his progress.

At a recent screening of Alien Romulus hosted by the folk at Collider, Alien Romulus writer & director Fede Alvarez was asked about his return to the Alien franchise and confirmed he was already writing the script with the hope to begin filming this year!

Romulus , Fede Alvarez , has had a good time playing with other people’s IPs, but he is looking to do something new… like a slasher movie. During a recent interview with Collider , the filmmaker said:

Imagine going to a movie and not knowing it's secretly a sequel. In today's entertainment landscape, it's almost impossible to conceive of a studio not leveraging the IP of a franchise in order to generate buzz.
