A K-9 officer was shot and wounded during a shootout that resulted in the death of a suspect on Wednesday, but is expected to make a full recovery.

K-9 Rocky, a U.S. Marshals Tactical K-9, is recovering after being shot twice while helping capture a suspect wanted for the fatal shooting of Deputy Jesus Vargas in Brazoria County.

The U.S. Marshal K-9 shot during a manhunt on Wednesday was released from the animal hospital Friday. He narrowly escaped death and is credited with saving lives. Rocky was shot twice, through the nostril and the neck.
