Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has authorized a delegation to travel to Qatar for discussions on a ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza, his office said Monday, possibly the last effort to secure a deal before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

Israel confirmed on Saturday that negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal had resumed in Qatar, as rescuers said more than 30 people had been killed in fresh bombardment of the territory.

An Israeli delegation is expected to arrive in Qatar on Friday to continue negotiations on a hostage and ceasefire deal in Gaza, a source with knowledge of the talks told CNN on Friday.

Residents and medics said at least 14 people were in the house of one family when the strike destroyed the building.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital staff said that more than a dozen women and children were killed in strikes in central Gaza, including in Nuseirat, Zawaida, Maghazi and Deir al-Balah.

Palestinian medics said Israeli airstrikes on Sunday killed no fewer than nine Palestinians in two separate attacks in the Gaza Strip, taking the weekend death toll to 97. This is as U.S. and Arab mediators stepped up efforts to conclude a ceasefire deal.
