I got my PPL just about a year ago and I have been getting the bug to build an airplane. Yesterday I had the opportunity to get some of flight training in the Kitfox SLA with Paul Leadabrand from Glass Cockpit Aviation. My main mission was to see if I could fit in the Kitfox and check its responsiveness with two big guys. Here are my impressions.

Many Kitfoxes are kept at home, and many more share hangar space with other aircraft, being folded up so as to minimize the storage costs. Besides those great folding wings, one other factor worth mentioning is the baggage capacities between the two aircraft. The Kitfox offers a nice easy to access large baggage area that holds 150 lbs of weight.

The great thing about it is that the book covers all the kitfox models and makes comparisons among them as the aircraft features changed.

At least theoretically, that means various Kitfox aircraft may very well behave differently in a spin because they are constructed differently. In particular, the weight and balance is different with different weight engines and construction modifications to account for the weight and position of the engine mounting and any counterbalance weight.

The Kitfox is accepted by the FAA as being a 51% or greater homebuilt aircraft. All you need to do really is satisfy the DAR who inspects the airplane. He is the one who will issue the airworthyness certificate.
